Graphics/Mouse Over Question

I'm playing on a Mac (if that matters, STOP snickering!!!)...

I can't seem to figure out how to show a character's name when mousing over them.

I also do not like the Warcraft-esque health bars in combat, but would like to have the ability to mouse over a character and see, "Uninjured, Barely injured, near death, etc etc."

Is this still possible? Or is hitting the tab key my only option?
