What is the best load out for a dwarven defender?

Option 1:
* Axe of the unyielding (+1 AC, +1 constitution, regen, vorpal)
* Defender of easthaven (+1 AC, 20% physical resist)

- It's like having a +1 shield, but you get the +1 apr and some good defensive bonuses

Option 2:
* Defender of Easthaven
* Shield (upgrades often, eventually getting darksteel shield)

- Eventually gives +6 AC and some good elemental resists
- Loses out on a lot of offensive power

Option 3:

* Crom - 25 str
* Defender of Easthaven

- Give up some defense for 25 strength.

What is the best weapon choices for this class?

    More damage would be more efficient at killing your enemies which would also minimize the amount of damage they do more than the benefits from the axe of the unyielding would offer. Crom is available in SOA so I would go with that if it were me. I do like the axe of the unyielding. If Crom would benefit someone else in your party more then you could always switch to the axe of unyielding when it becomes available. Option two could be a good choice if you are playing a modded game with high difficulty but for the base game I would stick the most damaging option possible.

    From the topic title I came in here expecting a punch line to some dwarven joke...
  • I'd go with Defender + Shield (of Fyrus Khal if you are willing to do Neera's quests) early on in SoA, then switch to Crom + Defender later on. By the time you have the Axe of Unyielding, you already have buckets of HP and damage resistance is far more important to staying alive than AC.
