Barbarian is now under Fighter field

mement0mement0 Member Posts: 105
Silly question but I am going to ask anyway.

As title says barbarian is now under the Fighter field in character creation.
Does this mean that barbarian now counts as a specialization kit or is it still considered a new class?

Thank you in advance.

In which instance would that matter? It's just categorizing afaik, and it fits very well as a Fighter kit. Although one might wonder why they didn't do the same with Sorcerer and mages then.

Also, we now have cleric of tyrs.

This would make Barbarian/Cleric dual possible instead of Berserker /Cleric.

Just whipped one up in BG2.

Nope. Can't dual. Into anything. So yeah, that might confuse newer players if they ever try it. Yet another bad thing this new UI enforced. :/

Thank you mate for testing this, I might post this later on in a more suitable sub-forum for the devs to see.

I raised this issue in beta. The Barbarian was technically always a fighter kit, however Bioware disguised it to appear as a class so they could say they had "3rd edition content" in BG2. In order to maintain the illusion of being a class, it was prevented from duel classing in way most kits can.

Beamdog simply moved it around the menu to make room for shaman, it is otherwise unchanged.

However, as I stated in beta, changing it's position on the menu is not without consequences: it changes perception, and hence expectation.

I suggested allowing Barbarians to duel class, but an alternative measure would be to add a note to the description saying "Barbarians cannot duel class".

It was pointed out that the Wild Mage kit is also unable to duel class.

The Barbarian in game class description should probably be updated to note that the class kit can't dual class, like the other Fighter class kits can.
