Dragonspear Castle scouting sidequests (minor spoilers)

maledictimaledicti Member Posts: 3
-Infiltration of the castle via the Warrens elevator: Is it possible to resolve the Belben confrontation peacefully? All dialogue options I have result in a fight, later on leading to an onslaught in the storage area that's basically unwinnable (at least on Insane difficulty).

-"On the Fence": How do I acquire the Red Knight symbol from Tristian? Merely trying to steal it had no results. Where can I get a replacement for it?

-"Blind Albino Wyrmlings": What use does the Shadow Gem have?

Thank you advance for any answers.

    On the fence :
you can talk about it with the infamous cleric Mizhena IIRC
Infiltration :
I believe there's some WIS check there. Not with Belben but with the 2 ogres, on my first playthrough as a cleric I was able to lie to them without starting a massive battle.
I don't think it's a WIS check. I've got 21 of that (thanks BG1), and no dialogue option works. It doesn't matter whether I convince them via giving them wine, intimidate them, or ask Rhonda. It always ends up with Belben attacking me.
Talking to Mizhena solved the second problem, however. Thanks!

I bothered to look through his .dlg file. It doesn't look to me like there's any peaceful conclusion to that encounter. I can't find one, at least. Guess I'll have to force my way through, then. Doesn't make much sense to me, since Jaheira implies there might have been a peaceful solution. And I think the "unwinnable encounter" I ran into was only supposed after taking too much time after slaughtering Belben's initial group. For me, it triggered from the start. The ogres even complained about hearing a massive ruckus up there, without me ever entering the warrens. A massive army of hasted, spell buffed to the max and absolutely mad crusaders, with near infinite reinforcements is waiting for me.

    I don't get it.

@maledicti For additional conformation: Glint is even warning the party that the fight is probably going to happen. About your problem, does it happen again?.. You didn't anger any crusader in the caverns, did you? I had similiar problems, when I tried to kill Strunk, before doing everything in the Warrens.

Don't be afraid to use tab, it won't bite ^^

that one took me a while to figure out. It's really obvious though, it's one of those cursor changes rather than a chest or door that lights up
click a table just after you enter through the main gates

Has anyone discovered what is the shadow gem found in the albino wyrmlings cave used for?

I haven't found a use for it myself. I recently lamented it's probably just a pricey gem, like the rogue stone.

That stat check with the Ogres does not avoid a fight upstairs, it avoids another, bigger fight once you come back down.
And it's a Charisma check, not Wisdom.
I failed that check the first time, and EVERYONE in the warrens went hostile and ran towards my party. For me, that was a completely unwinnable encounter.
So I reloaded, and this time had my PC drink a potion of Persuasion (+CHA) before going back down the lift, and this time the Ogres let me leave peacefully.
