Can someone explain to my what exactly Gamer gate is? I can't seem to get a clear answer from anyone. Is it a group of people or a movement? All sounds very silly to me.
There was a controversy some time ago about a (female) video game developer that supposedly slept with a bunch of video game reviewers/publishers in exchange for promoting her new game. Or something like that. I've also heard these were rumors spread by her vindictive ex. This exploded into a huge debate about ethics in video game journalism. Threats were made, people cried, blah blah, was a total shitshow all around. There was more to it, but that's the gist of it. This was called Gamergate.
So then this internet movement spread up around it, supposedly espousing anti-censorship and transparency in the gaming community. In reality, it's mostly "SJW", feminist-hating trolls from 4chan, Reddit's Redpill board, and other such dens of cringe. So now they got their petticoats ruffled over the little wink in Minsc's line and the Mizhena character.
