With BG:SOD and BG1:EE installed: where can/should i play BG1 content?

So i have updated my BGx:EE games to 2.0, and purchased BG:SOD ... didn't find the time yet to play anything anywhere except for testing new things with old saves. Looking forward to meet those new characters and NPCs everyone is talking about (and ranting about ... with time it will calm down though fortunately).

Now i'm wondering: I learned i could play all the BG1 content within SOD now, actually even un-installing BG1 to save space on my SSD(?), but it would mean to play with the SOD ui style right from candlekeep.
Yet I somewhat like all UI styles alike – blue stone for BG1, Black stone for SOD, Sand for BG2, and while moving from candle keep to the throne, i like the change of styling like the change of seasons, so i'd like to keep the blue stone style for BG1.
Is there any reason i could not play BG1 like i did before, and then importing the party / Abdel over to SOD? Any disadvantages compared to playing straight from the start within SOD?

It should be the same, just one thing is different, you will not move directly into SoD after completing the game, and this is the only way (as far as i know) for keep the containers. Not a big deal, anyway

If you're not yet sick of playing BG1, I would start there. The expansion is supposed to preserve your character, their inventory, and party. But there may be import glitches I'm not aware of. Keep in mind SoD takes place AFTER Tales of the Sword Coast, so be sure to finish all of your Tales business before you commit to the final battle.

Otherwise, if you ARE sick of it, go ahead and select your final save using Import from the SoD menu in order to get the expansion rolling. Or start it off with a new character. You'll get a preset party of NPCs, but you might have to use cheats to recreate your gear. Right now, SoD does not import my gear correctly and my character starts off butt-naked.

I would like to know what the game does when you select the BG1 icon from the SG menu too. I like that I can access the previous game from the menu but as soon as I saw the option the thought "oh boy, this is going to open a whole new can of worms in the bug reports unless it was done neatly" crossed my mind.

In the SoG main menu, click the baldurs gate icon (the skull) and start a new game, brings you to candlekeep, but with the SoG user interface and all. This is somewhat logical, as SoG is declared an expansion of BG1.

I was just wondering if i could instead play in the original game and switch over with an import later (which seems to be possible with some consequences – thanks für the answers!

I just started two games in SOD and had the same problem ... when importing from Character File. The Saved Game import (pre-SOD game) worked flawlessly.

I did abandon the games and started anew in BG1, only to find no sign of the first four NPCs ( Montaro (?), what's his name, Jaheira and Kalkin); Dorn was present.
