Steam doesn't seem to have a Digital Deluxe version, but I popped Other on there in case a) there's something I missed with this poll or b) they include a DD after I post this poll! :p

Beamdog. Whenever possible I get a physical copy of a game; failing that I try to get it from the developer/publisher directly, and I avoid DRM as much as possible. So in this case, bought from Beamdog due to lack of physical version and avoided steam as I dislike DRM and other companies taking a cut.

I like having a library of games all in one place, so I get on gog whenever I can, and if the humble store has a steam-only game I tend to get the steam key there since I know humble gives devs more of a cut.

That said if I had the money I'd have splashed out for the Collector's Edition on here for sure.

CE. Because I needed it for reasons. And it came with beamdog install as well. What's not to like?

    The price tag :(

I'm not saying it isn't worth it mind you.

It seems totally worth the price tag, I just wish I'd fallen flat on my face into a pile of money before launch so I could've looked at the tag with anything but longing and despair in my eyes.

    Um...I'm sorry, but... "Other"?

lol I tried to explain my reasoning in the first post on here but basically idk whether Steam is going to add a Digital Deluxe edition and wasn't 100% confident I'd tracked down every place that sells it

I had no interest in the soundtrack... except now that I play the game, I think it is really good. That's okay though, I can live without it. Also, music could get on your nerves if you listen to it too often.

Steam, because I am an unabashed achievement whore. Plus it tracks the amount of hours I've been playing... it's a lot.

I wish I would have gotten the soundtrack but oh well.

I'm a sucker for a good soundtrack. It was worth the investment of a little more green, for me.

I've bought all the EE games (except for IWD which I never like but picked up on Steam during a sale) directly from Beamdog because I appreciate the work the team invests into the game. I'll continue to do so if they publish other addons/DCLs or new games that interest me. Given the fact that they also provide you with Steam keys with no additional fee there is no reason for me not to.

Got the standard edition from Steam. Currently on the 3rd level of Durlag's Tower and then off to the meeting with the Dukes so I'll hop into SoD soon!

I bought on Steam only because they had BG EE on sale for $5. I had already purchased BG three times before (1. when it originally came out, 2. when I lost the play disk, and 3. for iPad), so I did not relish paying for it again just to get the EE. GOG wanted $20 for BG EE when I made the purchase. I am not sure if sales or specials are available now.

For us folks who own the collectors edition on Beamdog and who also happen to own it on Steam :)

I actually bought two. I got the collectors edition and the standard on steam.

If I had cashmoney I'd be grabbing that collector's edition.
  • SharGuidesMyHandSharGuidesMyHand Member Posts: 2,583

    GOG standard.

For the record, I would've bought directly through Beamdog (as I've done for all the other EE games), but Beamdog now requires that you give much more personal info (i.e: address, phone #), and I just didn't feel comfortable giving it.

Other: Collector's Edition, asking for the keys for Steam, and also GOG Standard Edition :)

Just the standard edition. If the music in expansion is really good I may upgrade to digital deluxe (original BG music is one thing I like but dont love).

Of course Beamdog, I'll never give money to this SteamReich third neo nazi party -_- In all objectivity -_-

    stand alone or nothing.

Beamdog, since I already had the other two there. Also, I'm extremely grateful BD offers a non-Steam version of the game, which is getting less common with other publishers.

I don't mind GoG, but didn't see any reason not to buy directly from BD and thus give them the biggest cut.

I bought the Collectors Edition from Beamdog. Looking forward to it big time. I have been trying not to dig into the digital manuals too deep so I can appreciate the physical copies more when I get them.

I pre-ordered Collector's Edition weeks ago AND bought the DLC on Steam before I even asked the steam key from costumer support to give my full support on the day of release.

Now after playing the game Iam waiting for a response to cancel my pre-order. Not because of the controversy, but "Siege of Dragonspear" didn't deliver what I was expecting after 15+ years from new Baldur's Gate. The biggest issue for me was the main plot. It was sloppy and didn't fit in with the Bhaalspawn saga. Iam okay spending $20 on Steam for DLC. But I'd like to get my $175 back, even if the physical items the Collector's Edition includes are fantastic.

It can happen, it's too bad that SOD didn't live up to your expectations. I look at SOD like I do Tales Of The Sword Coast. I feel like it is just more areas to explore, more items to find, and more quests to take on. I know SOD has a storyline all of it's own that tells what happens after Serevok and ends with you being where you are in SOA but my enjoyment of it doesn't hinge on story. I like TOTSC just because I like the added adventure. It doesn't really even have a storyline just 25 hours of added quests.

For me, this is a chance to finally own a collectors edition of BG1. Have a nice cloth map of the game and updated manuals that are spiral bound like my BG2 collectors edition. Of course having TOTSC and SOD as part of the package is expected since it's SOD's release.

I am not trying to persuade you to think otherwise, 175$ is an extreme amount of cash for a game. Just stating where I stand on the whole issue.
