Redemeed Blackguard, Dragon Disciple and a couple of other questions.

Given that I have only once played throughout the whole trilogy, and that was some 12 or 14 years ago, I am not sure exactly when, I plan to play throughout all 3 parts plus the new expansion. The problem is, which character to create. I always prefer fighters, given that I have problems to associate myself to mages. Given the games lack of NPC sorcerers, when I played, I created two characters... Now I will probably do something similar, given that I do not have time to play game multiple times (so many other games on waiting), but I want to try playing both as Dragon Disciple and Berserker or some other fighter type.

Since I always play with good or at worst neutral characters, it crossed my mind to try playing the new Blackguard class, but as a good character. I know that, I believe in BG2, at some point depending on your choices your alignment can change. But the question is, are there any drawbacks game wise if I play as blackguard with high reputation and what would happen to my stats and abilities if I switch alignment?

Also, any interesting suggestions as what to play for the run? Keep in mind that I avoid dual and multi classing and prefer single-classed characters... something along the lines "jack of all trades, master of none" or so...

If you go the evil route, there is both a sorcerer (Baeloth) and a blackguard (Dorn) NPCs in BG1 and it's new expansion. Dorn is also available in BG2.

AFAIK there isn't any penalty for playing as a Blackguard and getting up to 20 reputation or changing your alignment. But if you get a high rep with the NPCs I mentioned above, they'll leave your party before you reach 20. Not to mention that there could be conflicts with good aligned NPCs as well. You might have to stick with neutral NPCs in that case.

edit: I just realized that this post is in the German forum. You can ask a mod to move it if that was not your intention.

Yeah, I noticed too that I posted in German part of the forum. My mistake, indeed, if someone can move it to the English part I would be most grateful.

I know about characters leaving, so that is not the issue, my only concern is how it will affect my PC. I have a few ideas about characters, and can get to decide on which one to pick, but I have, at least in my head, interesting story behind his evil turned good change.

If you like the "jack-of-all-trades" character, why not consider a Bard? Spell casting, some thieving, pretty decent ranged support, and above all, massive Lore that will save you some coin in the long run. They can even be Neutral Evil, if you still want a "redeemed" character story. Bards also cannot dual/multi class at all, so you won't even be tempted to do so.

Every party benefits from having a SINGLE bard in them, and since the NPC bards are utter crap with horrible stats, being one yourself with a better stat layout would be a very good replacement for them.

    bards are the worst...
-they can sing OR fight but not both...not to mention lvl2 Spell resist Fear replaces the bard song, only exception would be the Skald's Song.
    -a few Low grade Spells...(max lvl6)
    -No weapon specialization
-only thieving skill is pickpocket , who the hell would even waste points in that if you get enough potions in every part of the game to boost your PP needs through the roof...
-Second lowest THAC0 progression there is.
    - can only wear chain male and bucklers (so you cant even wear a plate in the early levels then your mage spells aint worth a damn)

i rather have a F/M/T who can everything a bard can but Better...

@Telcontar there is only one place in Baldur's Gate2 where your Alignment changes , that is HELL ....right at the end of BG2 , the very last Bit.. and only if you are a "Good" aligned character doing a Evil decision, which kicks you to Neutral Evil.

I'll admit, Bards are not the greatest when compared to their 3.5 and on versions, and especially not their 5e version. Still, they can do just about everything, if not the greatest, and they won't level at an utter snail's pace like a Fighter/Mage/Thief. Plus the OP did mention a preference for a single-class.
