Khalid and Kagain "suddenly" level up south of beregost

Bug or feature?

Khalid and Kagain are both at about 500xp and nowhere near their 2k XP requirement to level up. Yet, im walking on the map south of Beregost and after slaying some random 35xp enemies they just out of the blue both level up to EXACTLY 2000xp.

At first i thought i might have turned on story mode by accident, but this wasn't the case. (Im on core rules)
Reloading an earlier save even in different area makes no difference, the same issue occurs.

Only mods i have are SCS and bg1npc... Help?

EDIT: I now figured they this occurs when my main character reaches 2000xp points... is this by design now? Have every character automatically collect as much XP as Charname? The odd thing is this doesnt happen to imoen who is not at 2k yet (but is already level2)..

It is probably a misfire of the new NPC starting level system. My guess is that a script is not correctly deactivated if your XP is too low when you meet them.

You will.probably be fine from that point. And let's face it: for Jaheira and Gorion tobhave adventured with Gorion they are absurdly underlevelled anyway.

I wasnt aware there were new starting lvl rules for npc's. Must have missed it in the release notes... Anywere that i can read up on those changes?

Anyway, i will probarly eekeep them back to their original xp, seeing as i like the early challenge with low lvl characters
