I'm really enjoying SOD so far

Its been great so far, and i'm up to the Crusader camp. I especially like how there's a lot more monster npcs that aren't just generic hostile enemies. Like the friendly Hill Giant Semahl, and the other monster races fighting for the Shining lady. They even have stories too, like the journal of the troll handler was an interesting read.

I've really enjoyed it too, only greater downside in my case is linearity, but that might more be a matter of emotional resistance than linearity being objectively a poorly thing.

What I liked is that I could not second guess the motivations or story arch for Caylar, meaning I was genuinely curious to play it until the end, just to see what happened.

My best chuckle went to Coldheart.

Yeah the linearity keeps cropping up and I feel the same way but I have to remind myself its important not to compare it to BG1 & 2 but rather TotSC and ToB. Id say against those two in terms of non-linearity for me personally SoD just comes out on top in a pinch.

I don't really mind the linearity. You really have the impression of being on a military campaign, so the linear progress makes sense. Not like IWD where you are just sent to successive dungeons. There's enough side-stuff that it doesn't feel too linear. The dungeons are small and varied enough, so they're not tedious.

Indeed - I do compare this rather with ToB, even if SoD is more substantial in terms of game-play I think.

And "embedded" expansions are quite rare, unfortunately, even generally speaking - like ToSC or, say, Exiled Prince of DA2, so this is just a fact of life... I am not panning SoD for being linear, even if it would be nice to be able to go back to old areas to mix it up a bit. (personal preference)
