Query about maps

Somewhere I read that you cannot "backtrack" to previously completed map areas in Siege Of Dragonspear. Could someone tell me if this is true?

True, once you moved onto the next chapter you cannot go back. This is meant to simulate the march of an army, not adventurers wandering wherever they want to go.

Not absolutely, but mostly yes. Whenever you complete a chapter you cannot move back to the areas of the last. However, in each chapter you have access to 2-3 outdoor areas, between which you can transit freely.

It mades sense from a plot point of view, but I would have preferred to be more lax here. One could probably change it with mods, but I suspect that NPCs you pick up later would miss dialogue in the areas you can no longer reach.

Just a friendly warning brave warrior @Hilda1007. In the event during your adventure for fortune and fame, you give your coin and items which can be upgraded by any NPC, which have a "ready in # of days", if you finish the area before those # of days have been reached, say goodbye to ever getting that upgraded gear.

I've run into this once already, and lost everything because those NPC merchants are not at the next camp you travel to.
