Does anyone know where to find the...

rat that you need to "talk" to to finish this quest?

    You should find them running around the camp friend. Pressing Tab might help to see them.

    are they only around at night? did several laps during the day and didnt see any

    They are out during the day, they are just really tiny and move around a lot.

    Same here. I found an item in some forest later on, brought it back to camp and completed the quest.

    You might only see the rat stage if you pass an Intelligence check or have ranger/druid in the party, there's a lot of that kind of stuff in the quest. Pretty cool addition in Dragonspear I think my friends. Very Obsidian-esque.

    nothing about rats for my quest either. i need to find some sap from a tree in the forest. been through most of that area and no luck finding it so far.

    If you're looking in Deadman's Gulch (or whatever its called) that's the wrong place. You have to look in the other wilderness zone that becomes available.
