Different pathfinding issue (new flavor, still I-scream)

When PC/NPC's had issues before v2.0 the game would slow down and 'chug' a bit while they tried to find their way (which was very annoying).
It seems that the 'fix' was to put in a time out on the pathfinding. The 'chugging' has been fixed, buuut, now I regularly lose members of the party somewhere halfway across the map. He's either stuck on the corner sprite of a barrel or a seated NPC or just out in the open because he couldn't get around other group members at the time and decided to give up.
This losing of party members across the map has increased 2 or 3 fold since v2.0 was released. Is there anything that can be done?
