NPC's with quests that net you good XP, items, or gold

Anyone have a list of NPC's who's quests net a fair amount of XP, items, or gold (or any combination thereof)? I'm interested in the quests that you wouldn't otherwise have access to without that NPC joining your party?
I haven't gotten to the latter parts of the game yet (suffering from a bit of restartitis) and don't want to miss any of those NPC quests. Even if I'm bringing the NPC along just to complete those quests.

It's really just the EE Characters that have additional loot from their quests in the 1st game. I'm not sure what the difference is in Siege of Dragonspear, but the loot varies greatly with NPC's in BG2.

In BG1 it's Dorn. Rasaad has one nice thing as well in his BG 1 quest. In BG2 almost everyone leads to some degree of profit

The NPCs quests are quiet simple in BGee - nothing really complicated and sad to say nothing extraordinary in terms of items except the tomes/manuals that raise your stats and you can get them without doing any of the NPCs quests.

Dorn's quest - is not really a quest at all - just a need for revenge - you will bump into his targets without really having to do anything. Defeating Dorn's enemies will give you some okay magical items and some okay xp.

Neera's quest - is rather straight forward and even less complicated than Dorn's. Has a magical item but mostly for Neera although anyone can use it.

Rassad's quest - is a bit more involved only that you have to have in chapter 5 BG in order to activate it. Has 2 magical items - one is good while the other is unique.

The helm/cloak of balduran is a side quest and both are great items to get but its not given by any NPC that join with you.

Remember that you and your team are still rather low level - so if you are thinking amazing, awe inspiring magical items (like what you get in Bg2ee) - nope it doesn't appear.

The other quests by the other regular NPCs are also rather simple and sometimes they even give up on their quest and sometimes you complete their quest at the same time you are doing the bigger quest event. Some are really time sensitive - so be warned if you pick up Kivan or Minsc - although they will warn you before hand - but if you don't do it eventually they leave forever. No amazing items in either quests.

The tome of con aka manual of bodily health (to raise your con+1) is a quest item from Safana the thief sort of - its probably one of the better items in the game - along with the other tomes that raise stats - but not all of them will be useful to you the PC.

  • Unlike BG2, BG1 doesn't really have any quests that you have to have an NPC in your party to do aside from the EE NPCs. I mean, Safana wants you to check out that cave and Minsc wants to rescue Dynaheir, but you can ransack the cave or go to the Gnoll Stronghold without talking to anybody.

The EE NPC quests in BGEE aren't major sources of XP or gold, since the base game showers you with more of those than you need anyway. As for magic items, Neera's quest is nothing to write home about unless you really want a free scroll of stone skin. Dorn's quest provides a good bastard sword and a suit of elven chain if you have need of either of those. Rasaad's quest provides a very good belt, but his is also the most involved, so it's debatable whether it's worth the trouble.

Neera has a gem bag, (the only reason to recruit her IMO). There aren't any others in the game.

But all you have to do is initially rescue her, nick the bag, remove her from party.

    Nope, just BG:EE v2.0

Alternately, if you fail to keep the Red Wizards from killing her, then you can just take the bag from her corpse.

Well if do her quest a lot of goblins with expensive compound bows are easily killed and looted. It's a half a reason

There is also a funny encounter that is quite entertaining with Neera in BG - that adds to her character - none of the others have really anything like that since everyone else is all about revenge (at least Dorn and Rassad is).
