*Spoilers, probably* Did I miss something?

So after the bridge at Coast Way Crossing got blasted I naturally ran around exploring the rest of the map. I did the singy stone quest, didn't find out what the deal with the petrified people was, sent the gauth north to eat crusaders and went into the undead cave thing. I didn't finish the cave however, it kept kicking my ass and annoying me, so I left and figured I'd check out the next area to the north a bit. Naturally that started a new chapter.

I assume I can't go back, so those dwarfs are probably getting grumpy. But I also didn't check out the forest to the west. I've kind of considered restarting anyway (and yes, I know about the auto-save at previous chapter btw) to get my scroll cases and gem bags and whatnot, but is it worth it? Did that other area or the crypt have anything I shouldn't have missed?

The crypt has a sort of neat opposing pair of sidequests that has an (arguably, very-small) impact on a later chapter. The forest to the west is very small, has one somewhat-memorable bit of content. All-in-all I wouldn't go back just for those two chunks of content. It sort of depends on how much playtime you have played since the save you would reload.

Also, if by " to get [your] scroll cases and gem bags and whatnot" you just mean that you never bought a scroll/gem bag/case in chapter X i'd say don't worry about it, the quartermaster is present in virtually every chapter.

Unfortunately no, you can't go back to previous areas after initiating a new chapter. You're not alone in not caring for that particular mechanic - I think you should be able to access all southern areas before crossing Boareskyr Bridge. You'll have to reload or soldier on :(

Started SoD by using game import rather than loading the Final-Save, which causes you to lose all carried containers. Not a terrible loss, but I did have a couple full gem bags, which would be a nice source of revenue seeing as my gold evaporated. Anywho, sounds like I can live with the stuff I skipped. Though the blue outlined forest does torment me...

That area only contains one encounter, IIRC. I missed it during my first playthrough as well.

On the one hand, it is a bummer that you didn't bring in your wealth of items from the first game -- considering that it was likely a lot of riches considering how much stuff you acquire over the entire course of baldur's gate. On the other hand, i'm envious that you didn't spend the prologue and first chapter of the game in inventory-hell because of your vast riches. (an easy fix to this on beamdog's part would be if all the mundane containers were just sitting on a table in the prologue)

I hate to bring this up, but for me the dealbreaker would be if i was intending to continue on through BG2 and had the golden pantaloons prior to importing the save.
