Were we always able to see though blocked walls in the original BG?

In the EE versions most if not all hidden doors are given away before you even can find them. It seems in most cases you reveal a small part of the map behind the door just by walking past. Even normal doors before you open them your able to see to the other side.
Related to this im also noticing in some maps as you walk around your able to randomly get glimpses of near by areas as you walk by adjacent walls.
Has there been a change to how the Fog of War works in EE or is this just a random bug? I was going to make a report but wasn't sure if this is just a engine limitation or bug that persisted even all the way back in the originals and so is unfixable.

Jokes aside, I do thing it was the same in some instances in the original game. In your first picture, for instance, you probably wouldn't be able to click on the door to open it, were it not revealed that way. Same goes for the hidden wall-door in the second picture. Also, for some reason I seem to remember that this green spot on this particular map in picture 2 is also visible in the original game.
Also might be a random coincidence but a common bug that is in EE 2.0 that is slowly being fixed where you would get random artifacts or a "square" around doorways is noticeable on this next image. Im curious if that has something to do with it?
Lastly the upper hidden door in this image is easily accessible to click from this side so it shouldn't need to show the hallway. Unless its a safe guard to have it show what's behind both ways without any way to limit your view of the map from just one direction.
Would be interesting to know if anyone who has the original remembers this happening or could test it.
