[Spoiler] My Missed Fortune Quest

in Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear
I'm just wrapping up the siege in the courtyard of Dragonspear Castle after whatshisface from the Ducal Palace got stabbed w/ the shortsword and the journal informs you that to find your fortune, you'll have to find the crusaders who killed whatshisface. I don't seem to be able to find their corpses in the castle courtyard and I was wondering if I somehow missed them or if they're deeper in the castle. I also chose the one-on-one fight w/ the crusader officer and the crusader forces retreated. Does this remove the murderers I'm looking for from the vicinity? Thanks guys!
