Shadowkeeper - a happy party

BG2, Edwin and I are having artistic differences. I've tried changing his alignment to lawful good (hee hee!) and lowering my rep, to 14, I wasn't keen on going really low; so he still keeps leaving!

Any suggestions as to what I can do to make him happy without lowering rep?

Install the Happy Patch component in BG2 Tweakpack at G3:

Not sure if you need to do this at the start of the game, though.

It can be done at any time. What it does is alter happy.2da, which you can also do manually with an editor such as NI. You can then determine exactly for every alignment at what reputation they will be angry to the point of leaving, annoyed, neutral and happy.

    @Shin is that beyond shadowkeeper?

So... Without cheating, if I wanted to play with Viconia (never have), does she really bail at high reputation?

@reedmilfam yes, I think even true neutral ones do too. I'm sure Branwen did in BG, can't remember Jameira ever doing it though, she just moans!

Neutral characters never leave due to reputation. They'll be unhappy at the extremes, but they won't leave. At least that's what it says in the manual. It's possible they could leave due to other factors though. Such as not going to Nashkel early enough for Jahiera.

@Awong124 I'm pretty certain about Branwen leaving, but it's not like I have any proof! Don't they also just disappear if you remove them from your party whilst they are at odds with your rep?

I'm not sure what happens when manually removing them, don't have too much experience with that. In the manual it says that good characters "break" at low rep, evil characters "break" at high rep, and neutral characters never "break" they're just unhappy at either extreme.

@Moomintroll Yeah, you will need NearInfinity or DLTCEP to edit those files. Don't let that discourage you though, once in the program it's a lot like editing a text file.

Thanks @Shin, I'll give that a go if I can locate a flash drive to put that onto my BG computer with!

Neutral characters "Break" (leave your party) at the lowest reputation levels, and get "Angry" at the highest reputation levels, and generally have no point at which they are "Happy".

There's a table in the manual that explains the break-down.

Personally I'd rather it be somehow based on Charisma. But that's a rant for another thread. :)

@Aosaw we all know the manual is full of lies! Anyway rather than me relying on my bad memory, maybe I can prove it to myself either way by checking with NearInfinity.

Suffice to say that the new manual will not be filled with quite so many lies. :)

Ohhh but I liked getting complete misinformation. I'm still waiting on the fighter/mage/druid class that reportedly exists. :)

If you are playing BG2, do the Viconia romance quest and you have the chance to get her alignment to change to True Neutral. Otherwise, yes, she'll leave if your reputation gets to high. Of course, once she's True Neutral you can't do anything too over the top evil or she'll leave/attack you. I had that happen once. My otherwise evil party killed a bunch of civilians and then True Neutral Viconia attacked us because we were being too evil, lol.
