Dual-Class erase proficiencies

When clicking the dual-class button it goes to the screen with Class, Skills, Back, Done, but it doesn't let click the back button to cancel dual-class.
After going through the dual-class process it goes to a screen that says "The character is equipped with items in invalid quick slots. These items will be dropped."
It then allows you to cancel or continue with the dual-class, but if canceled it will erase you previous proficiencies. It also saves all allocated skill points for thiefs from the previous dual-class attempt.
Needless to say I am now a fighter without any proficiencies and I have to start the game over again because I can't hit anything.
