Hexxat. To finish or not to finish

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
Hello all. I'm having troubles with the Hexxat's Request quest chain. There may be a solution to this in the forums already but I was afraid to search and find potential spoilers beings as this is my first play through of the game.

I'm having a problem getting the quest to progress. So far, I acquired Hexxat at the Copper Coronet, went to the tomb of Dragomir and acquired the true vampire Hexxat and Dragomir's cape. However nothing triggered quest wise once I accepted her in the party. Then upon venturing a little further, she told me that she would soon meet "L" to acquire a job. This being said, nothing at all has been updated in my journal and nothing has come of this "L" person. I've tried traveling to various places across the map and have rested in the copper coronet for about a week straight. Is there anything I can do to initiate the next part of the quest or am I missing something perchance? I'm in the enhanced edition Shadows of Amn steam edition. I'm currently in chapter 2 with almost all the sidequests I've found done except for a couple that were increasingly difficult and one that I haven't bothered to try yet. Is it even possible to finish her quest or is she bugged because I would much rather replace her with another companion and I don't feel like dragging her around until the quest actually progresses itself naturally. But I may do this if I have to.

    For me it took about 2 weeks game time and it was a night time encounter in the city.

    Well I sat at the inn and spammed rest a bunch of times and it finally worked. Thanks for saying that cuz I was about to abandon that quest all together. Cheers and heres to hoping it doesnt bug out more before I finish it hah.

    So i went and obtained the claw of the black leapord. I picked up asidequest from a ghost child in the graveyard district on the way. After I obtained the claw and came back i went to the copper coronet and into the back part and went through the sewer entrance in there and came up in the slavers area in the slums. as soon as I freed a child tho, hexxat walked up to me and left my party! She had some pretty nice items i was having her hold as well. She said she would return to the copper coronet if I wanted her to join me again but when I went back to retrieve here, she says she refuses to join the party because I'm currently in the "limelight". Does this mean I have to lower my reputation to get her back or is it possible to get her abck at all at this point? If it's not possible then I plan on just slaying her and retrieving the items she stole from me lol.

    The EE evil characters (and, btw, the original evil characters as well) won't join your party if your rep is at or above 18. So, in short, yes...lower your rep. If you want evil folks, you can't be the goody two-shoes heroic person.
