Question regarding Carsomyr

Haven't been using the Carsomyr very much since I rarely play Paladins or such. I've been reading about the Ws9/thief dual class (for the use of UAI).

If a mage is protected from magical weapons, will I still be able to dispel the PfMW by hitting him with the carsomyr? Or do I have to dispel it via a spell or use breach? As a last resort, should I bring a mundane weapon to bypass PfMW, so that I can at least put spell failure on him? I've read that even with stoneskin, mirror image etc, I should still be able to affect him with spell failure.
