Merlane. Does anyone here know what that is?

Old-timers, stand up! *creak* :lol:

For those who don't know, the merlane is one of the most interesting wizard kits from before the word "kit." This is the issue of the Dragon Magazine that introduces him (BTW, go up in the directory and you'll find all issues of the Dragon and more): http://annarchive.com/files/Drmg237.pdf

Bringing this fellow to Baldur's Gate as a PC kit would be difficult, considering the fast-paced and "homeless" nature of the game, but for BG2 - well, that's is something to do at your wizard stronghold. A merlane could also make a wonderful NPC.

    From the name I was expecting something more Merlin-esque.

    The kit itself doesn't look too hard to implement to be honest. Its just a Transmuter with a focus on animals and magical beasts.

    But it focuses on breeding them and inventing them from scratch! It's not a whip-bang-summon a magical beastie for 1 turn kind of kit. This is the sort of wizard deserving of the name, more than a walking cannon. Implementing it would take good dialogue, opportunities to sell these creatures or use them somehow - a more sophisticated world than BG, in short. More like PST. But for BG2 - I think it could work.
