Can't Import Mage character for new BG1 game

I'm having trouble importing my BG1 mage character for a new game. It will import into BG2 just fine, but not BG1. After importing, the "skills" button can be clicked, and after selecting skills, the character creation cannot progress, as all the buttons are grayed out.
