SoD - unexpected xperience boost

I finally arrived in SoD! B)
My group (the same that went with me to Sarevok, - Imoen) is still equipped and hanging on to their old experience points.
My PC (warrior/shadowdancer multiclass) has gotten a huge xp boost though.
I was hanging around the levelcap before (lvl 7/8), but suddenly received more than 160k EXP on my thief level (+64k from my warrior class), making me a 7/10.

I don't get it, especially because I'm the highest level compared to my party. Is it because I'm starting with 5 instead of a 6 man troop ?

    The game tracks how much XP you receive beyond the level cap. When that cap is raised (in SoD it's 500k) it applies it retroactively. If you go above 500k, you'll get that XP in SoA.

    I don't think it does this with NPCs, but I play w/o cap.

    With NPCs you could kick them out and when they rejoin they should up match to your XP.

    I can't speak for the BG1-SoD transition but I know from experience that transferring between SoD and BG2 does not carry over extra experience. My PC reached the experience cap midway through SoD and started SoA with 500k experience.
