Game crashes in opening sequence BG2 EE

I'm using OS X El Capitan 10.11.5. I can go through character creation but after I finish talking to Imoen the game just crashes. I've tried twice - the first time it just crashed when I was trying to select characters, the second time crashes when I tried to quickly save my character (it didn't work). Is anyone else having this problem? It means the game is completely unplayable.

    Try going into your Documents folder and creating a "Baldur's Gate II - Enhanced Edition" folder. Rename any existing folder or link that is there.

    I was having this issue with Baldur's Gate:EE. It appears on Sierra, the "Documents" folder is hidden (at least for me because it's now synced with iCloud) and that the app created an alias to a non-existent directory. I created an actual folder named "Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition" and now my game works.
