Husam disappeared

Apparently Husam has disappeared from my game. He's supposed to be outside the Blushing Mermaid where I have a convo with him (where a few of his shadow thief buddies appear) but he's nowhere to be found. I tried to console him back in but he immediately disappears again. I was able to catch him quick enough to talk to him but his dialogue is like we just met for the first time and he just walks off.
Is he important? Will I miss anything by skipping that part? Has this happened to anyone else?
