Eh, I just thought "no murder xp" sounds cool. (And calls attention to the bias in these games, tending to present every problem or issue as something best solved by violence.)
It is cool. In my perfect RPG resolving problems, quests, tasks, solving puzzles, exploring world environment and uncovering secrets gets you the main XP pool. This game segment makes the player feel he's part in this fantasy adventure not just killing machine.
