Can't initiate Daxus quest

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
I have been to the wild mage hideout and been given the daxus quest. I have the return talisman to give to daxus but I cannot get him to talk to me. After speaking with Hayes ( who also did not initiate dialogue - just told me where daxus is ) I go to daxus and all he says is
"Your'e early for the performance - why dont you come back later etc etc"
It is very late in the game now and I would like to complete this quest.
Maybe hayes it hte problem and I need to kill him and respawn him or maybe kill and respawn daxus - but I cannot find the createcreature code for either.

Has anybody else had this problem or knows the createcreature codes

    You don't need to kill Hayes or Daxus. Do you have Neera in your party? I think you need to have Neera.

    No I do not have Neera - I was playing with my own characters. Is it a prerequisite for the quest that you have Neera.

    PS - is there a patch so you can have all the side quests without having to enlist all the characters?. 1st I dont like them, 2nd there are just so many

    @daveymcman: Given that many of the side quests concern the lives of those characters (Cernd, Keldorn, Mazzy, Jan...), it wouldn't be sensible to be able to do the quests without them. So, there almost certainly is no mod that would allow you to do that.

    Why not forget about them?

    I think Daxus only performs at certain times of day, he just wants you to come back at night. Try sleeping once or twice. I don't think you need Neera.
