Copies for a multiplayer

Hi all,
I played BG al those years ago when it was new and loved it. But I havn't played computer games much at all since ToB. But now I feel that I want to support Beamdog and hopefully be a part of funding BG 3 by playing BG EE.
But playing it myself seems boring so I'm thinking of trying to get my girlfriend to play with me.
Which leads to my question.
Do I need to buy two copies of the game to multiplay it with my girlfriend (one laptop each, next to each other) or can we play on a single copy? Same question goes for SoD of course.
Lots of love and best regards

With Steam I think you can 'legally' play it on multiple devices that you own, just not at the same time.
