Cleric NPC script - multiple Bless?

So...
The NPC Cleric, acting as the group healer, has the Cleric Defensive script activated.
At the beginning of a battle in the Spider forest (Cloakwood) she casts Bless on the group as her automatic first action.
After that, meanwhile the rest of the group charges the spiders, she stays put and casts the other two remaining Bless she has memorized.
Any ideas as to why?
