How can Quayle's transition from a game to another be explained?

First , I'd like to say that even though I haven't had him that often in my BG1 parties , Quayle is indeed a very funny and interesting character. Also, the NPC project shows him as gnome who brags about his intelligence because it's like a escape mechanism for his insecurities.
That said, he is much more complex than just Aerie's mentor and it makes me ask myself :
1- Why do you think that he was separated from Aerie at that point? There is a mod which suggests that he was cast away from Aerie's circus.

2- In BG2 he is in control of (or at least a very important figure in) the circus. The time given between bg1 and bg2 makes it possible , specially because he's gone in SoD.

3- should all of that be official, in BG1 he must have had an attitude problem because he couldn't admit that he was separated from his "ward" . But travelling (with or without your company) must have given him the strength to claim the circus. Another possibility is that he lost track of the circus and at the end of BG1 he found out where they were.

4- I've seen people in the forum discuss his personality change, so let's first pretend that the writers weren't lazy and consider that quayle may have a personality disorder.

Please share your opinions ! :)

It's two, different, unrelated Gnomes named Quayle. "Quayle" to Gnomes is like "John" to Humans.

Indeed , I wish BG2 Quayle were a bit more like that.

That's an alternative, his looks and stats are the same in both games, so I think it was intended to be the same.

I feel fairly secure that being imprisoned in an illusion and tortured by an incompetent circus magician counts as something bad.

Especially when your co-workers start calling you Mr Slimy Pants in the aftermath of said illusionary tortures.

I like to think that way
(I like BG-Quayle too much to let that nonsensical BG2-Quayle ruin my day)
