Spell scrolls

Ha ha, I thought my knowledge of the game was reasonable by now, but I've just discovered Mages, etc. can use spell scrolls (the one's you'd normally write into your spell book) from their quick item slots - for one use. So, if you have duplicate spell scrolls you can use them as one-offs in addition to your normal spells for that day.

Could someone confirm for me, does this mean a level 2 Mage who picks up a level 3 spell scroll can use it as a one off before reaching level 3??? Or does the game prevent you from being able to do that in some way.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Yep, you just need 9 in Intelligence to read it.

Also, a spell casted via scroll can't be interrupted.

And ALSO, you can unlearn a spell you already know from your book and learn it again to earn additional XP.

@SpaceInvader Wow, that's quite a big deal then. By that I mean I've often gone with Mage's/Specialists over a Sorcerer/Bard/"something-Mage multi class" (I know you could have them as a secondary arcane caster) because I feared those one off situations where you need the next level of spell to be able to defeat a powerful spell caster, etc. However, if you can cast at a higher level directly from the scroll that changes things.

Are we sure this is the case? e.g., can a level 1 Mage cast from a scroll that's level 10? (I know you probably won't find level 10 scrolls that early in the game, but it might make you want to visit High Hedge earlier, or have a run around lower Durlag's tower a bit earlier etc.)

As I said, you just need 9 Intelligence to use a scroll, nothing more ;)
