Need help choosing two npc's for my party.

Heya

I have just started a new game and would really appreciate your advice about my final npc choices .
These are my definitive choices:
Protagonist: NG human Blade. From a 78 roll I gave him dex 18, in 14 and cha 15. 2 weapon prof and profs in short sword and dagger. At lower levels he will use throwing daggers and drink potions before memorizing important spells.

Khalid and Jaheira : they fill important RP and tactical roles in the party. Depending on my next choices they might have to work as the party tanks.

Imoen: Always and foreverby my side, I shall dual her at level 7.

So I was thinking of some possibilities for my next two party members:

Branwen: modded so there's romance, but I don't really know if she matches a dark Blade bard. Since I don't want Dynaheir this time she would be the only romance option.

Viconia: I intend to romance her in SoD and SoA, so having her from the begining sounds like an interesting option.

Shar teel: I think that her agressive personality would be a good contrast for the party, and I could use another fighter, but can she really fit my neutral-goodish party?

Xan- He's the only mage alternative since I'm not interested in minsc and dynaheir and I don't intend on having Edwin for the sequel. I'm also considering that I could make it work without a mage until I dual Imoen. 'Sides, charname is a bard.

So here's the dilemma: any two choices I make will make up for a nice party, but in terms of interaction and development who would you consider taking?

Xan. You'll want a dedicated mage, and disabler spells rule in BG1. Plus he's funny.

As far as Shar-Teel and Viconia go, it's easy to get really high reputation in BG1, so while I would recommend Viconia for the romance path you plan on taking, it'll be hard to keep either of them around with regards to reputation. Unless, of course, you lower it by murdering people. So, Branwen, or, bring Viccy until she leaves, then Shar-Teel until she leaves, then Branwen when there aren't any more choices.

It is possible that nobody will leave if you watch your reputation, so if you take Viccy first it may be possible to keep her around.
    Hope this helps!

Quayle. That dude never gets enough love and hes super funny. Plus mage/cleric gets a phenomenal amount of spells, even with his crappy wis. Its too bad hes only available late in the game.

Hey @dockaboomski , I have some strategies for avoiding a dramatic increase in reputation- for example , at the lower right corner of the map there is a flaming fist looking for the the fugitive samuel, if he spots you with him he'll turn hostile, but his death will cost you 9 points reputation ,even though it's self defense .

So you recommend bringing Xan and either one from the other three? Do you think I would be weakened without an extra fighter?

Hey there, I didn't think of him because I had him in my last playthrough , he's indeed a funny and quite useful character. Just the fact that he cab use wands already makes him quite powerful.

Would you consider any those four options?

How about some Neera lovin'? She fits well with a neutral party.

@DJKajuru I think that you'll be alright fighting wise. I also definitely recommend Quayle - maybe as an alternative to Xan, if you want.
@alceryes I don't care much for the EE NPCs, and Xan has a special place in my heart. But Neera would fit as well, if she's your thing.

@alceryes I didn't think of Neera because there will be no room for her in BG2 ( I'll pick Jan for arcane magic) . I really lime her SoD lines, though.

@dockaboomski quayle would fit the party well, but he comes quite late in the game for me

I say go with kivan and xan

kivan can actually work in melee if you start putting points into another weapon ( I usually do scimitars, and then someone accidently dies by a bunch of gnolls.......)

and xan is actually a great mage, and know what? its kind of a nice forced change of pace, the game seems to really favor all those awesome evocation spells, but no what, being forced to be creative in using something different sometimes really helps to make the game fresh again, plus emotion hopelessness and hold monster are absolute killers if used by xan, and xan can use a wand of fireballs worse case scenario :)

well for the first member i'd say viconia. you're going to use her in sod and bg2 so continuity.

i used kivan before and he is a great archer if you're not having imoen have that role. and he has a bg2 mod so again continuity.

    Branwen.

Full-time Cleric with all that comes with it.

A bit booring when it comes to the roleplay aspect, as she is not very multi-facetted.

    /A.

    - Shar-Teel dualed to thief around the time you dual Imoen to Mage. 2 thieves in bg1 is excellent IMO and this fits perfectly.

    - Viconia as you want a cleric and this way Shar Teel won't be the odd one out alignment wise.

    Perfectly balanced party!

Hey guys, so far I've included Viconia and Shar Teel . I understand that shar teel is chaotic evil because she's had a really bad past and thinks that violence is the only solution, but I also changed my alignment to TN now.

Just an update, I defeated Mulahey with the two evil girls, but I couldn't resist not having Xan around so I dumped Shar Teel. :)
