Installing an extra copy of the game?

I have BG and BG2 installed via the Beamdog client.
I would like to start experimenting with installing mods. This I would do on a separate installation, so as to not mess with my vanilla install.
Is it possible? What do I need to do?

    Yeah you can, just start the setup for the game install again and set a different directory.

    You can just copy the game install folder and run Baldur.exe from there. There are no registry entries or anything lingering, old style Windows executable.
