Assistance Needed: On the Fence - Tristian's Holy Symbol

in Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear
I am currently trying to complete On the Fence by winning Tristian's Holy symbol in a game of Coroniir / Chess but right now I am having no luck at all.

I understand that I need to have either a high wisdom or intelligence to beat Tristian but thus far, each time I try and talk to him with Baeloth and Viconia I end up losing the match. I have tried everything, making them party leaders, feeding them potions of intelligence - thus far nothing seems to work. Any advice to how to solve this?

    Giving Baeloth/Viconia potions won't work - it has to be the PC with 17 intelligence or wisdom, or have Edwin, Dynaheir or Neera play the game, which you will have a dialogue prompt for.
