I found some article, how to handle allignement of paladins, if you never read about lawful good and paladins. As in tv tropes stated paladin always good first, after lawful. So she can break law if she thinks the law is evil.
And the article, it states about lesser evil, greater good etc.

Other than the lack of author credit, it's a good article with lots of food for thought.
The "Order of the Stick" web comic did a very good in-story treatment of fanatical paladins vs. practical and moderate paladins in the Azure City story arc a few years ago. Azure City was an entire city ruled by paladins, and besieged by the comic's arch villain and main antagonist, the epic level lich Xykon and his army. During the story arc, we see deep character development involving a fanatical female paladin, and the more moderate and rather ruthlessly practical paladin ruler of the city. I highly recommend it if you haven't read it.
I'm linking the rough beginning of the story arc. The fanatical paladin Miko has captured and returned the Order to Azure City to stand trial for the crime of destroying a protective magical gate at the beginning of the comic series. It's a little confusing to jump in at the middle, so if you're interested in this, I recommend reading from the beginning with comic number one.

I usually roleplay my paladin to be very conflicted about it. The Shadow Thieves are clearly less absolutely evil than Bodhi. I imagine my paladin decides that saving Imoen's life takes precedence over ending organized crime in Amn, and reluctantly helps the thieves, up to a point. He certainly has no compunctions at all about attacking the vampires, even if it's Aran Linvail who tells him to. After Imoen is saved, I think you can attack the Shadow Thieves if you want to.
