Will you be able to carry-through some NPC's stats from BGEE to BG2EE?

I was wondering whether you will be able to "carry-through" the NPCs that appear in BG2* from BGEE into BG2EE, like you can with BGT-Weidu (http://www.shsforums.net/forum/261-bgt-weidu/)? Its important to know this, because it will (amongst other choices) affect how I distribute the Stat bonuses from tomes. If its only CHARNAME who'll be carried through, I'd be tempted to dump the lot on him/her, whereas if the NPCs I want to use in BG2EE will be transfered across with their stats, I'd use them more intelligently i.e. the Wisdom tomes on Viconia, Dex and Char on Imoen, and just save Str, Con and Int for CHARNAME (Fighter/Mage).

Also, will the starting stats of the NPCs in BGEE be like their stats in BG2 (which are usually better e.g. higher Dex for Jaheira)?

I'm assuming from the hints that it will work more like BGT than TUTU, but can anyone confirm? Thanks

* i.e. Imoen, Jaheira, Minsc, Viconia, Edwin

This is by all accounts unconfirmed, and will depend a lot on how BG2:EE ends up implemented. If it is to be a separate install from BG:EE, the import system would have to be reworked to cover more than just the PC.

However, no matter how it ends up you will with extreme likelihood be able to just manually edit the various NPC stats in BG2:EE to whatever they were when you left BG:EE, with e.g. Shadowkeeper.

I'm a greedy gut and give all tomes to CHARNAME at all times. I guess we need OCCUPY: BALDUR'S GATE to protest the upper 1% (CHARNAME)... Just kidding. It's a great question, as WIS might not matter to CHARNAME but does to some NPC's. Same for CON if you're not a fighter-archetype.

Minsc with 19 STR. Adds power to "Make way, evil. Heeeeero coming through."

I often play mages in which case I tend to give both str and con to Minsc, and dex to Kivan.

If it's not certain, I'd be tempted to dump them all on CHARNAME...

Even if it is certain, I'm still tempted to dump them all on CHARNAME :D

I give them all to Xan.

...What? A guy can hope, can't he?

@Aosaw - well the CON boost probably helps him a lot!

in regards to improved stats from BG NPCs to BG2 NPCs, might it be that through their BG trials and tribulations Viconia has become a little wiser and Jahiera a little more nimble (nothing rude intended!) therefore it wouldn't make sense to revise their BG stats based on updated BG2 stats

I'd love to see this introduced. It can't be too hard.

BGEE NPCs will have the stats they had in BG1.

As for how they will carry over to BG2, I don't think they're even thinking about BG2EE at the moment.

Wouldn't stat editing be against 'the terms of the contract' as so many things have been.
  • DeeDee Member Posts: 10,447
@Jaxsbudgie It could be negotiable, as part of the change in engine mechanics. But it would depend on whether the change was warranted or deemed necessary (or desired by fans).

I'd personally be against the change. It's obvious why their stats were bumped up a few notches, they were being carried over from a low level campaign into a high (then eventually epic) one. Although it wouldn't render them useless if they kept their BG1 stats, it would definitely make them less attractive as NPCs.

It would be a huge fail if they didn't carry over things from BG:EE to BG2:EE. If Edwin knows a spell from BG:EE it would be moronic to have him lose it for BG2:EE.

This should be a very foreseeable issue that they have in their minds as they frame the games.

With the exception of Imoen, all of the BG1 npcs that are recruitable in 2 have improved stats anyway. If you gave Viconia 2 Wisdom tomes in 1, she'd still have worse stats if carried over to 2 than not.

I would say this is pretty unimplementable and not really an issue for me at all.

What if you had the alternative between importing your Game (with NPCs stats as they were in your BGEE save) and your Character (just your pc)? Charname's "amnesia" at the begining of BG2 would sort of "fix" any inconsistencies, right? Seems to me in this way everybody wins :D
