Repository of the Undead - Remains and tattered clothes

I know this is probably irrelevant to most folks, but I wondering if anyone knew if there was a story behind the remains that are on the old steps. It looks like the old entrance to whatever this dungeon was supposed to be, but I haven't found any books or scrolls that might refer to the history of the place.

Am I missing something?
