Avenger Fighter armor bug?

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
Avenger (12) dualed to fighter can't use armor heavier than leather, is this a bug? Any workarounds?

    Typically, item restrictions that are due to lack of training get removed in a multiclass or dual-class. For example, a mage can't use long swords, but a fighter/mage can.

    On the other hand, item restrictions that are due to a character's faith or belief are retained during multiclass / dual-class. For example, a cleric can't use long swords (because he doesn't believe in using bladed weapons), and a fighter/cleric retains this restriction.

    Druid gear restrictions are considered faith-based, so they maintain these restrictions in dual and multiclasses. Other restrictions that are faith / dedication based include the Kensai's armor restriction, the Wizard Slayer's magic item restriction, the Beastmaster's weapon/armor restrictions, etc.

    Training-based restrictions include all Mage/Thief gear restrictions-- they'd happily use any item around, they just haven't trained enough to wear heavy armor or equip large shields, etc.
