Bump Maps

Is there any chances that the EE will be able to handle real bump maps for texturing or is that out of the scope of the EE?

    Normal map are going to be supported. Trent said in one of the streams.

    So will the player characters have/support normal maps too? That would really change the look of the game into something much more modern.

    With out knowing for sure I would hazard a guess of no. I could be very wrong, but I have the feeling that PLT textures will not support it. I hope I am wrong :)

    I think they looking at ways to support both. I pretty sure they getting the engine to do a search for either normal map first and then if that not found the engine will look for a ptl map of the same name or ptl first then normal. You have the same issue with just NPC model with their custom DDS/tga files support. So looks like a double lookup to support forward file formats and supporting legacy. I hope that does not cause a resource hit.
