in Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition
I've just got the GOG version of IWD:EE, where do I go at in the game and how do I advance through the game successfuly?!

    Go everywhere and kill everything with a red circle around it.

    Explore the starting map and talk to NPCs. They'll tell you where you can go and who else you can talk to, and following that course should lead you through the game.
