How about making a new but very similar game from scratch instead?

I mean all this luggage, both technical and for some people more or less spiritual. Why not start from scratch instead of tip-toing around in this mess and risking getting nothing done for the sake of not stepping on any toes.
Also you run the risk of ending up with a game that still looks 15 years old
Lets call the new game: Neverwinter Nights 3

2) Because Beamdog is a very small company without the resources to tackle a project of that size.
3) Because without backward compatibility you are taking a huge gamble when it comes to community support.
4) Because NWN never looked 15 years old - It looked 20 years old when it first came out!
Making a different game wont solve the problems with this one either and it wont make some of the more tricky suggestions less tricky for legal or budget reasons.
If you believe in the idea then you should start work on it.
