Old Characters and Save Games

I expect this question to be answered by now but I cannot find it anywhere.
Is it possible to import my old characters and savegames from the not enhanced edition ?

Yes, it's been asked and answered several times, but the search function on the forums sucks royally.
The answer is no, you can't import neither save games nor characters from the original game to the enhanced Baldur's Gate.

The reason is that too much have changed in the game.
Treat it as a fresh start. :-)

For clarification, you might be able to get your imported character to work (the file formats haven't changed at all), but if the character was made using the BG1 engine, the proficiencies will be screwy, as well as some other things (items, etc.).

If your imported character was made using TuTu or BGT or some other mod that converts BG1 to BG2's engine, the transition will go more smoothly. But there's no guarantees that you won't end up with a broken character.

So in other words, feel free to give it a try, but don't be surprised if something gets messed up in the process. I wouldn't be surprised if, at some point, a tool is created to convert vBG characters to be compatible with BGEE.

Ok. I wanted to pre-roll a new charname (or five) before release. Seems like my best bet to do so is to BGtutu/BGT? I understand there are no guarantees, but this will hopefully save me some time on launch day.

Now that the Enhanced Edition has been out for a while, does anyone know if it is possible to import a character into BG:EE from either Tutu or BG2?

I was able to import an end game tob character to the black pits, so I would think so

So I could just continue my old (original BG) save game with BG:EE, is it right?

From what I've read (and tried) so far, you can import a BG:EE character into BG2 as long as it doesn't have one of the 6 new kits. Unfortunately, importing a BG2 or BG character into BG:EE will crash your game.

Thnx for the answer! That's damn sad, I wish I could just continue my original playthrough with the good overhaul. Maybe with BG2: EE then :)
