I can't die at the end. No, literally--I can't

in Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition
I've finally made it to the final location in the game and none of the Greater Shadows are dealing damage to me. They are reducing my Strength score though. It's really killing the ending for me--is this some sort of bug? I've seen a video on Youtube and the guy seemed to be getting hit just fine. I've tried dropping all my items to see if there was something else causing it--no go.

    You could attach a save game so people could have a look.

    But are you
    able to click on the cannons in order to open the portal to procede
    ?

    The strength draining effect seems to be intended. However, the effect has only a 33 percent chance to hit and lasts only 15 seconds.
