I’m playing a solo blade. Does singing help me at all?

If I hit the harp icon, and I have a musical note over my picture on the right side of the screen, am I getting the benefits of the song for my first attack?

Secondly, what are the benefits of a blade song?

im pretty sure the only thing the blade song does is give you resist fear, so it's practically useless, especially on a solo run, and even if it did give you the +1 luck bonus, to be perfectly honest i don't find +1 to be noticeable

i had a run with garrick where he was constantly playing his bard song and i found it to be no different than not having a bard

so especially if you are only sneaking in one attack, i say (with a 1940s gangster mob's accent) forget about it

You will get the benefit for that attack, yes - and luck increases both the chance to hit and damage (assuming we're talking about the EE post V2.0 here - in vanilla the bard song was bugged and the luck bonus wasn't working). The effect isn't quite the same as a permanent bless, but not far off - so is a significant difference if you can be bothered to constantly switch the song on (or want to use an AI setting to automatically sing whenever the character is not ordered to do something else).

If you're playing SoD there's also an item that will make the bard song persist for longer after you finish singing, which will increase the advantages of doing so.

The blade song is the same as the level 1 bard song. The difference is it does not improve with levels (the basic bard song eventually goes up to a bonus of +3 luck).
