ToB - Backstab

I completed SoA with a Thief as my main character, but as soon as Throne of Bhaal started, I could no longer successfully backstab; enemies would turn in my direction, regardless of whether I was using Stealth, or (Improved) Invisibility, or an invisibility potion.

Is this a bug, or intended behavior? Any workarounds or advice for thieves wanting to slide a dagger into the ribs of another big bad Bhaalspawn?

    Welcome to one of the biggest flaws of ToB. The game unfortunately renders some classes more and more useless, thieves being one of those. Most opponents you'll come across can either see through stealth, are immune to backstab, or both. It basically bottlenecks you into using casters. So my advice: Use traps or use UAI to make yourself into a semi-caster.

    spike traps are awesome. A friendly dragon is hoarding the staff of ram? Spike him.
