'Reat until healed' sorta defeated the purpose of having Inns.
BG2 started to go down the path of 'casualness' as it ripped out a lot of exploration and strategy from meta-gaming elements like resting, travel, etc.
To be fair, Rest until healed just shouldn't exist. The game already has problems convincing it's player not to just rest after every encounter reset thier spells. Making them reset thier health will just tempt people even more. And we all know if you end up resting all the time and going into every fight at top condition, it kind of ruins the game.
