Map Coordinates

in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition
So I dug up my original Baldur's gate discs from 20 years ago and started playing the other day for the first time in forever. I wanted to pick up the ring of wizardry at the beginning of the game to make things a bit easier, and it would be a lot easier if I could just use map coords to find it.

Digging around in a google search tells me that all I have to do is hit x when I'm looking on my map, but nothing happens when I've tried it. Were map coordinates not in the original game?

    In vanilla BG1, the key was l, not x.
