Is there an auto-save feature?

Please don't throw stones at me! I'm just questioning so I can prepare my brain to get back in to the "save every other minute" mode from a decade ago. I don't recall there being one in BG2 or Shadows of Amn unless you traveled somewhere? But I'm probably mistaken.
Anyway, is there a way to turn on/off auto-save every so many minutes, or what should I know about autosave?

It'll autosave transitioning from one place to another, other than that you'll need to hit Q every so often.
You have one Quickslave slot you can save to by hitting "Q"
You need to make real saves. It's a good idea to have a few rotating save slots and maybe one at the start of each chapter. Once you've played the game through once you won't have to be so religious about saving. But your first game your odds of screwing something important up is higher =3
I will try to keep a few rolling saves, but I hope they have squished many of the game ending glitches and bugs so that I can't screw things up tooo bad (Except dialog choices!)
SAVE OFTEN!!! AND IN DIFFERENT SLOTS!?
The auto-save is actually pretty hit or miss. It generally only saves when you enter an area that requires the whole party, but some world map transitions DON'T.
