Amulet of Hearthfire, can you really use it?

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
I saw its charged ability for 3 DD a day. But I tried and nothing happen.


Did I miss something? Or was it only solely for plot purpose?

    If it doesnt work i would have to clua console into hidden refuge alr.
